I have quickly realized that many people will find this blog thanks to the efforts of my brother Johnny, and sister-in-law Elise. The two lived in Peterborough through the summer season and represented the Slow Acres brand at the Peterborough and Lakefield Farmer’s Market. My brother, an amazing pastry chef, and sister-in-law, a skillful chef as well, really made their mark on the community with their delicious treats.
The two have moved on and won’t be working the markets this year, so it isn’t likely you will see SA represented at the markets. Sadly, the door of the delicious pastry portion of the business is closed – for now.

AgSquared ~ An All-in-One Solution for Small Scale Farms?
2012
For the 2012 season, Slow Acres will be focusing on organic hops, eggs, and producing a small amount of organic produce to be distributed privately. We plan to add a small amount of livestock in the coming months as well, however, this will be for our own use for now until we are ready to grow.
One thing that we truly believe here, is that you have to experience everything first-hand in order to truly understand it. Is that any different with other areas of life? It is much easier for us to be compassionate toward a cause or person, if we have been in their shoes.
Similarly, each season we grow produce, we learn something new and plan for changes in the next season. With my Permaculture Certification studies under way, we are already taking a different approach to our planning.
Last year I heard about a program which seemed perfect for our needs, Ag Squared. What is Ag Squared?
I have just signed up for an account, and am hoping to streamline our work and use this program to do the planning, organization (exactly as they say above). I will be sharing the set-up process and keep you updated on my progress with it. I am easily frustrated by programs and often revert to a pen and paper, but I’m really hoping this program delivers on its promise!
